THE BIG ONE: BOZTORGOY v KARAKOYUN, TWO UNBEATEN CLANS, ONE GOAT

This is the one the steppe has been waiting for. Boztorgoy and Karakoyun, the only unbeaten teams in the Highland Conference, five wins each, meet on Saturday afternoon on the Boztorgoy winter grounds in the Moiynkum.

Boztorgoy, the "cattle clan" from the northern steppe, play it tight and physical: 30 goals scored, only 15 conceded. Karakoyun, the senior clan, the ones who sit at the place of honour at the Kurultai, score for fun: 35 in five games.

There's history. Boztorgoy autumn herds cross Karakoyun land every year, and every year somebody complains. On Saturday they settle it with a goat.

Kick-off is 15:00, roughly. Highland games start when the elders say so. The match commissioner promises to phone in the result "the same day", which in the Moiynkum means "this week".
